Didn't expect that...

One thing I hadn't bargained on was my upcoming wedding making people unhappy - but it turns out weddings are a massive potential minefield of hurt feelings and strange long-standing resentments. All these people who I haven't seen in years, and who didn't invite me to their weddings (which bothered me not a jot) are now relaying to me via various messengers how upset they are not to have been invited to our wedding. So I find myself on the phone to various hurt parties explaning myself to them and massaging their egos. In one way it's obviously very flattering as it means they must like us enough to be upset by not being invited, but at the same time I can't help feeling confused by the complexities of human nature!

The "complexities of human nature" are compounded over here in Romania by the fact that you have to pay when you go to somebody's wedding (as a gift of money for the bride and groom), and so inviting people to your wedding is more like an act of revenge than an act of friendship :-)

blimey - if I lived in Romania i'd just keep getting divorced, so I could get married over and over again - if you were Zsa Zsa Gabor it could be a nice little earner

oh, and brit - we already thought of that, so we planned a stand-up buffet!
