I like this photo - its from a WW2 era Life magazine, and it's a picture of an exhibition put up in Central Station in New York, the purpose of which was to reassure commuters by showing, using airfix models, the mighty number of planes that the Americans had at their disposal, ready to blow the Japs to smithereens. If the government wanted to reassure us about the war in Afghanistan, they could try putting a new one up at Paddington, although i'm not sure anyone would be that confident after seeing a few rusty landrovers and a couple of broken helicopters dangling from the ceiling.
