A collection of photographs showing the rapid acceleration of the destruction of modernist and characterful buildings in London, mostly to be replaced with faceless boring glass office blocks. I know and like(d) many of the buildings that have already disappeared. Shame.

I used to live next to the hole in the ground in Munich that has now turned into a pretty museum, housing the personal collection of some rich teutons called Udo and Anette Brandhorst. The building looks great, and I hope to check out the art inside when I visit this summer...

For all those 8 year old modern architecture lovers out there, comes this new lego version of Frank Lloyd Wright's seminal creation, Fallingwater - one of the few modernist buildings that seems to integrate entirely and perfectly with its natural surroundings.

I just stumbled across this artist, called Paul Davies, from Sydney Australia. I like the way he combines acid-washed moody painting with a graphic theme and cool architecture, sort of an even more trendy Peter Doig. I shall be looking out for more of his work!

It looks a bit like a portakabin, and I dread to think of the amount of big nasty spiders that would be around in undergrowth like that, but all in all I find this house in Sydney to be rather attractive...

There are some rather nice people called The Twentieth Century Society who have taken it upon themselves to stand up for all the mostly unloved modernist buildings we have lumping around this sceptred isle. At the moment they are trying to focus our attention on the buildings of the 1970's in the hope of rekindling our love for that largely forgotten architectural era. The only really 1970's architecture I can think of off the top of my head are all those cul-de-sacs in Milton Keynes. Thinking of them just makes me depressed so I may leave the 70's alone for a while

wow, this building is a bus depot built in an industrial district in the south of Paris -
and it makes a bit of a difference to the bus stations of Britain that I am familiar with - Two shining examples that I can think of include Plymouth's delightful Bretonside bus station and of course, who can forget the ethereal beauty of The Brunel bus station in central Slough?

This looks like a pretty amazing design indeed. It was a proposal for the new Taipei Centre for The Performing Arts, and was to contain 3 large theatres. Unfortunately it appears that the architects hadn't thought at all about the acoustics of those theatres, and so the design was shelved. Pity.

I would never really want to live in one of these ridiculously prissy, cold and over-designed houses, but I do quite like the thought of cleaning my teeth and looking at a nice water feature rather than an avocado plastic bath suite.
