The Horror...

I have been rather quiet over the last few days as I have been recovering from my stag weekend. Those of you with a taste for schadenfreude will be pleased to know that my Saturday involved me being forced to dress as Bruno in tiny lederhosen before being made to run around a freezing field in the Cotswolds being shot by my friends with high powered, very painful paintballs. After that I had to parade around a succesion of pubs still dressed in my hotpant/lederhosen combo and engage girls in conversation whilst my friends threw glasses of water in my face. It was lovely.

At least you'll only have to do it once. These male rituals are bizarre, aren't they? If you were a professional footballer, cricketer or (especially) rugby player, your life might be like one long stag do - a vision of hell.

good god, yes, a rugby player's life must be dreadful.

I suppose the stag do is some kind of intended metaphorical 'emasculation' of the victim - by reducing another male threat, the rest of the group of males feel boosted in their own power/security

Never thought of it that way, Worm. It must have been a great comfort in the throes of your horror to retreat into such anthropological speculations.

...you mean as I was crouched in a ball swearing as another paintball impacted at high velocity on my bare legs? yes, a great help! :/

well, Im glad I have done it and got it over with!! some people have it much worse than I did!

Good heavens, is that what a chap has to go through to get hitched these days? Joining the Foreign Legion would have been less distressing. Well done though!

The rituals of male 'bonding' are very curious - sounds like you got off lightly.
