Dreams of the desert

They've got an exhibition on at MoMA -
"Into the Sunset: Photography's Image of the American West" , and here's a slideshow and some interesting words over at Slate

I love images of the western desert, the threadbare houses wilting in the sun, the mysterious lines that bisect the salt flats on google earth, the weirdos, the outlaws, the myths

What great volumes of space and hard-bitten people. Reminds me of shots of the sea and fishing villages. But then I suppose the sea has been our desert, being a wilderness and a frontier.

very nicely put gaw, so the people who live in the desert are anchorless floating sea gypsies and swarthy lawless pirates! Its nice to think of it like that!
