Found these cool photos on BLDBLG. I really like the juxtaposition of marginal, barren surroundings and incongrous futuristic structures that have seemingly landed like alien craft upon the landscape.
I wondered whether you were familiar with this series of paintings by an American artist, Thomas Cole?Images of rise, decline and fall seem to be a continuing theme of your blog.
Susan, that book looks great - I've posted about the detroit 're-wilding' on here a few times!!! I may even have used some of the photos from that book - unfortunately it is slightly out of my price range!!
Gaw, you are right, I do seem to have a rather adolescent interest in doom and gloom! Thank you for bringing 'The Course of Empire' to my attention, I'd never heard of it - I do love a good bit of armageddon, especially if it involves people in togas and sandals being smitten, Martin's 'Great Day of His Wrath' being my absolute favourite!!
Wow, those are amazing - and amazingly weird. I think you would like a new book called The Ruins of Detroit, by Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre - I love the incredible photos of abandoned buildings are curiously eerie.
