Spooky stuff

Why do previously 'fun' places become extra-creepy once they are abandoned? Why does the innocent charm of an icecream van tune on the breeze also have the capacity to sound scary and melancholy? Why is everyone suddenly so scared of clowns?
Here's
an interesting collection of photos of a now disused themepark in New Orleans - left as Hurricane Katrina approached, it has only been lying dormant for 4 1/2 years, yet already it is reverting to nature and decay.

  1. Seen through the eyes of a voyeur, the world will always be a curiously creepy place

  2. Yes, I'm with you on this source of creepiness, but never before analysed why. Clowns are simply wrong.

  3. blimey Gadjo, I'd forgotten about that film, I remember thinking it was pretty ace back when I was 11 or 12, along with other VHS video nasties like Critters, Pirahnas II and C.H.U.D.

susan - I've never thought of myself as a voyeur before!
